There are many reasons people find themselves living on the street, one is mental illness…it’s estimated that one quarter of all homeless people were suffering from a serious mental disorder.
Drug and alcohol use is also often a factor: More than a third of homeless shelter residents struggle with substance-abuse disorders. And economic factors such as job loss or the cost and availability of housing can’t be ignored.
